Building Design Considerations:

The design considerations of this building community are what make the concept of AGING-IN-PLACE a reality. Although you may be retired, you might not yet be thinking about the physical aspects of your home that will help or hinder your daily life. Here are just a few things we plan to put into your new home*:
  • Crank Handles instead of door knobs, make opening the door easier.
  • Lower Counter Tops & Cabinets accommodate craft days with the grandchildren and wheelchairs if necessary, making your kitchen more accessible.
  • No Slippery Stairs! On an icy day in Portland (a common winter occurrence) even the few steps from the garage can be treacherous.
  • Wide Parking Spaces accommodate entry/exit from your car, particularly for someone who may need assistance or have medical equipment with them.
  • Reinforced Towel Racks & Shower Hand-holds will help prevent embarrassing falls and keep you safe. You don't have to have them installed initially, but the walls will be structurally ready to enable easy and cheap installation.
  • Large Showers that you can easily walk (or roll) into.
  • Indoor and Outdoor Amenity Areas (and balconies) that are easily enjoyed no matter your physical condition.
  • Nearby Mass-Transit and Bus Lines are accessible and convenient to all services and amenities. No need to bother a friend for a lift (although your Co-op neighbors will probably insist!).
Come in for a 1-to-1 meeting so we can show you more of our brilliant designs!
