The Power of Good Health:

The residents of The Sheldon Cooperative are energetic people who keep going in the face of adversity. What ties them all together is not invincibility, it's a positive attitude and commitment to staying active.

As we age trips to the doctor or hospital may be more frequent, but they don't have to keep us down. That's why our community is placed in a vibrant walkable neighborhood, conveniently located near Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital.

Health Statistics:

During a two-day travel analysis, of those in a walkable neighborhood:
  • 33% walked daily for pleasure or tasks
  • only 11% were obese
  • drove only about 25 miles per day on average.

In contrast, among those who placed low value on walkability and lived in a car-dependent environment:
  • only 3% walked at all over 2 days,
  • they drove much more: 43 miles per day.
  • Their obesity rate was nearly double that of the walkable neighborhoods: 22% were significantly overweight.
