Cooperative housing affords a living experience unlike any other age 55+ oriented option. Specific lifestyle benefits include:
Community: Ensure you are part of a vibrant, caring community.
- One of the greatest benefits to cooperative housing is being a part of a lively, thoughtful community.
- Cooperatives originate through the collective desires of individuals who know one another or share commonalities. Enjoy the alignment of interests created by a shared purpose and a common investment.
-
Create and maintain meaningful relationships with friends, neighbors and your community.
Co-ops bring people together. Building your own co-op allows you to continue to connect to your life-long community. These two factors let you avoid the loss of community and feelings of isolation that can accompany a move from your home into a typical senior housing facility. Banish the feelings of isolation by working to create a community with people you know, in the neighborhood you know.
Control: Influence your living experience and express your individuality.
Unleash the genius of democracy, in a co-op, your opinion matters.
-
Residents govern their cooperative without any 3rd party or outside-owner interference. Avoid the influence profit driven management entails. By making key decisions collectively, and governing management staff in accordance to the community’s desires, you’re in control of where you live.
-
Select a floor plan and interior design that works for you.
You’ve earned the right to live in a home that is uniquely yours – suited to your personal needs and desires. Picking out wood floors that appeal to you shouldn’t be such a difficult request (as it is everywhere else)! Our Cooperative works with co-op founders to identify the sizes and layouts of your co-op’s floor plans. Furthermore, initial members can either customize their home interiors or choose from the elegant options made.
-
Guide the selection of building amenities.
Lounges and libraries, exercise, wellness and therapy rooms, common kitchen and dining areas, or communal terraces and gardens are all possible and built per the desires of each co-op. Building your own co-op allows you and your fellow residents to select amenities; the options are endless, and up to you.
Social: Grow tomatoes, attend lectures, and gather for a BBQ on the roof deck.
- Cooperatives facilitate both group and individual activities. Committees create social activities and opportunities for all residents to enjoy. Throw some parties, pot-lucks or barbeques (or hire a great caterer) and then head out to the symphony (by taking the nearby streetcar). Organize and attend weekly lectures given by members or guests. Trade foreign language lessons with each other. Be part of the gardening team – without having to be on watering duty every day. The opportunities are endless.
Wellness: Live a long, independent and thriving life.
-
Research shows that people who are self-reliant yet interdependent and connected to their immediate community live better, more meaningful lives.
Successful aging begins at home, and co-ops uniquely accommodate and facilitate active senior’s lives and lifestyles. Thriving is so much more than just being healthy and fit; the benefits inherent in co-ops enable emotional and mental well-being.
-
Guarantee your future physical needs are accommodated.
Assure that you will be able to age gracefully in your home by incorporating special accommodations into your unit. We will work with specialists who design with future senior needs in mind. This means that every home is accessible and wheelchair friendly without sacrifice to aesthetics. Small items that will eventually matter, like bathroom towel racks that are supportive, or kitchen islands and cabinets are at the right height and depth will be built right the first time. Our co-ops will be designed to make daily living easier, both now and in the future.
-
Appreciate the safety created when neighbors look out for fellow neighbors.
Cooperatives are a safe and secure option in our tumultuous world. You and your neighbors know and look out for each other. By working as a group, and having on site staff present, many eyes keep watch and support one another.
Mobile: Make leaving town easy and worry-free.
- Living at a co-op frees you to come and go with ease. Travel in Italy for a month without bothering the neighbor’s kid to collect mail and flush toilets. Instead, utilize your onsite manager to watch over your home and attend to issues if any arise. Piece of mind and ease of use – now that’s living!
Simplify: No more gutter cleaning and fewer bills to pay.
- Relinquish the preverbal yard maintenance, house painting and worrying about your roof. Enjoy the services of a professional property manager that cares for maintenance and operations. It’s nice to have a property manager, especially when you don’t have to pay for it all by yourself.
- Cooperative members have fewer housing related bills. Monthly co-op assessments typically include, water, taxes, mortgage payments, maintenance, gas and garbage collection. You pay your TV/Internet/Phone and electricity providers and in doing so keep life simple and easily managed. Moreover, monthly dues include reserves for repairs, thus relieving you from worrying about that aging furnace downstairs.
